You Have to Joanna Gaines’s Incredible Garden

Since their rise to fame as the star couple on HGTV's Fixer Upper, Chip and Joanna Gaineship and Joanna Gaines have turned their Magnolia at the Silos into more than just a home goods shopping destination-it's an experience. With an entire lawn filled with games, a bakery churning out cookies and biscuits on the reg, food trucks galore, and a gardening center that rivals the California Super Bloom, the space does more than just sell furniture (and function as an Instagram haven). The Gaineses are on top of keeping it beautiful year-round-and their springtime garden routine is no exception.

The gardening team at the Silos mean business: they start preparing for the first spring bloom as far in advance as the cold month of January. This year, gardening started on January 4, just three days into the year and one day after the bulbs arrived.

The Silos grounds feature 10 different varieties of tulips and two varieties of daffodils this year for the ultimate spring garden-totaling in 12,000 flowers. Yup, you read that right-12,000 flowers.

To keep the bulbs from sprouting roots, they arrive cooled-and are planted ASAP to prevent the roots from growing prematurely. Because of the quantity of bulbs, it took the Silos gardening team three days to plant them all! The gardening experts have three different planting strategies that they revealed on the Magnolia website-called bouquet, even spread, and sprinkling.

Planting flowers in a bouquet strategy means exactly what it sounds like-you dig a large hole in the soil, fill in around 15 to 30 bulbs, and then cover it up. As the flowers grow, they'll come together looking like a beautiful bouquet. The even spread method is when the bulbs are spread out every 3-6 inches, and sprinkling is when bulbs are placed between existing plants as fillers to create an even fuller garden.

As of March 14, the garden at the Silos has officially begun blooming-and the result is incredible.
