Jodie Comer has been pictured on the set of 28 Years Later.

The Scouse superstar has been confirmed in the lead role for the third instalment of the classic horror franchise. The 31-year-old from Childwall has been announced as part of the cast alongside fellow stars, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Cillian Murphy and Ralph Fiennes.

The upcoming film will mark the reunion of Danny Boyle and Alex Garland, who directed and wrote the 2002 original, 28 Days Later. Filming is underway on the new project in the North East.

Jodie has been spotted on set at the production, which has taken over the town of Rothbury in Northumberland. Jodie has transformed into character in the picture as she is wrapped up and clutching a water bottle in between takes.

Jodie is set to adopt a Newcastle accent for the new film as she told ELLE how Girls Aloud star, Cheryl, has been a source of inspiration for how she has altered her Scouse tones for the upcoming film. She said: "I’m excited to get the first day done.

"Danny just seems like such a confident, intuitive and intelligent director. The original was so loved, so I’m trying not to think of that too hard. I’m not putting too much expectation on myself."

News of the upcoming film was exclusively released by Deadline and Jodie re-shared the article as she looked forward to her upcoming chapter. She said: "The next adventure."

Plot details for the upcoming film are vague but it is reportedly the first in a planned new trilogy.
