Joe Swash praises 'warrior' Stacey Solomon as he gives update on 'tiny' baby Rex's progress

Joe Swash described partner Stacey Solomon as a “warrior” as he opened up on the progress of the couple’s newborn son Rex.

Appearing as a guest host on today’s Good Morning Britain, Swash said that his girlfriend is “doing amazingly” and told viewers that their baby has “put on loads of weight” after arriving "a lot earlier than planned."

“He’s four weeks old, my little boy,” he told presenters Susanna Reid, Ben Shephard and Kate Garraway. “He is tiny. He was only a little tiddler but he’s put on loads of weight now so he’s back to birth weight.”

Praising his girlfriend, he added: “Stacey’s doing amazingly, it’s such a difficult job being a mum. You don’t really realise until you’re doing it.”

“She’s doing really well,” he continued. “She’s a warrior, honestly, now I know why women do it because if it was down to us we would never have kids, would we?

“I’d do it once and think, ‘that’s it! Put that away, I’m not doing that again.’”

He went on to reveal that Solomon’s sons Zachary, 11, and Leighton, eight, and his son Harry, 11, “all love” the “lucky” newborn.

Swash then waved at his youngest son from the studio, explaining: “Usually six o’clock is one of his feeds so he should be up hopefully, so 'hello Stace, hello Rex! How are you?' He ain’t got a clue who I am yet!”

Discussing parenting in an interview on Loose Women last week, Swash admitted that he constantly checks on the baby.

“If the baby doesn’t breathe for about five seconds, I poke it. Not a hard poke…” he said in his first interview since becoming a father again.

“Stacey goes mad [and says] ‘Will you stop poking the baby? I just fed it, let it sleep.’

“He is beautiful. He is so resilient. I think it is us parents that feel more vulnerable than the children.”

Good Morning Britain is on ITV, weekdays at 6am
