The Hollywood sensation told how he struggled to manage as stories emerged following the split.

Depp said: "I was as low as I believe I could have gotten. The next step was, ‘You’re going to arrive somewhere with your eyes open and you’re going to leave there with your eyes closed’. I couldn’t take the pain every day.”

He added that as a way of expression he started writing a memoir pouring out his feelings.

The 55-year-old said: “I poured myself a vodka in the morning and started writing until the tears filled my eyes and I couldn’t see the page anymore.”

Heard said in court filings that the Pirates of the Caribbean star was abusive to her throughout their marriage, which she claimed culminated in an argument in May in which he threw a mobile phone at her face.

A lawyer for Mr Depp denied allegations of abuse and argued that Heard was "attempting to secure a premature financial resolution by alleging abuse."

The estranged pair officially divorced on January 13, nearly eight months after they separated.

2. He tried to pull his own tooth out whilst at a restaurant with Penelope Cruz

Spanish actress Cruz revealed details of Depp’s colourful past delving into an eventful evening.

She revealed that Depp once attempted to pull put his own tooth whilst in her and Stella McCartney’s company in a London restaurant.

The 44-year-old added that she could imagine pal Depp returning to character Jack Sparrow at the age of 70 or 80.

She said: “I imagine Johnny doing a version of Jack Sparrow at 70, at 80.

“It will be as charming and as great.”

After watching the American rocker’s Kill4ME music video, in which he and a group of scantily-clad women feature, Depp revealed that Manson entertained his daughter with a game of Barbies.

Describing Manson as “such a good friend” he explained: “Marilyn's the best. He's such a good friend. He's played Barbies with my daughter.

4. He spent $5 million to shoot a friends’ ashes into the sky from a cannon

Last year, Depp’s former managers claimed the actor’s extravagant lifestyle forced him to the brink of financial ruin.

The lawsuit claimed he spent $3 million to blast his close friend Hunter S Thompson’s ashes out of specially-crafted cannon, $18 million on a yacht and $4 million on an attempted record label.

It also claimed he spent $30,000 a month on wine and much more on other lavish ventures including private planes and a staff of 40 people.

Depp however, was keen to clarify one particular stipulation in the lawsuit: “It's insulting to say that I spent $30,000 on wine. Because it was far more.”

5. His difficult relationship with his mother

The actor battled a roller-coaster with his mother Betty Sue but admits that he “worshipped” her nonetheless.

He told how his first Hollywood pay-cheque was not a luxury sports car but rather a house for her.

Depp was the youngest of four and primarily raised by his mother whilst his father was a civil engineer.

He said the family moved around 40 times and that his mother would subject him to “irrational beatings.”

Depp explained: “Maybe it's an ashtray coming your way. Maybe you're gonna get clunked with the phone.

“It was a ghost house – no one talked. I don't think there ever was a way I thought about people, especially women, other than 'I can fix them.”

He did however add that she was a “real b**** on wheels” and possibly the “meanest human being I have ever met in my life”.

Betty Sue died in 2016.
