Juniper Road Two Fire Pushes Beyond Fireline to Reach 2,000 Acres

The Juniper Road Two Fire in southeast North Carolina grew to an estimated 2,000 acres after pushing through firelines, the North Carolina Forest Service said on Thursday, August 11.

As of Thursday morning the fire was at 25 percent containment, the service said.

The fire, which began on August 2 after a lightning strike in the Holly Shelter Game Land, pushed beyond the fireline on Wednesday and is progressing east towards Highway 50, the service said.

Changing weather, difficult terrain, high heat and low relative humidity are all posing a challenge for the firefighting effort, it said.

No structures were threatened as of Thursday.
