Kasabian pay tribute to Bruce Forsyth during Reading set and invite Noel Fielding on stage

Reading and Leeds Festival headliners Kasabian paid tribute to the late Sir Bruce Forsyth during their set on the main stage on Friday (Aug 25) night.

The Leicester rockers – who recently announced a 12-date UK and Ireland arena tour for later this year – gave a ferocious performance after Bastille, and covered Daft Punk’s ‘Around The World’ early on in their set, after which singer Tom Meighan told the crowd: ‘Thank you Reading. You know what? I’m still alive. I’m fucking still alive!’

The band – also comprised of Sergio Pizzorno, Chris Karloff and bassist Chris Edwards – were forced to cancel a show at Custom House Square in Belfast earlier this week after Tom caught a fever but returned to the stage fighting fit.

The crowd begged in unison for ‘one more song’ as their show came to an end, at which point Tom shouted out to legendary entertainer Sir Bruce Forsyth and sang ‘Bruce Forsyth, I’ll see you on the other side’ during a rendition of their hit ‘Vlad The Impaler’.

Noel Fielding joined them for the track and even joked: ‘I have killed many people in my time. I also present cake show.’

Earlier this week Tom used Facebook to reveal his illness which caused them to cancel their performance, writing: “Absolutely gutted to have to cancel last night’s show in Belfast. We were all at Custom House Square, ready to go on stage when Tom suddenly went down with severe vomiting and could hardly stand up let alone sing. He was taken to hospital, put on a drip and told to rest up. We had no option but to cancel and we’re sorry to our fans and anyone that travelled a long way. Thanks so much for all your messages of support. Details on the rescheduled date to follow soon xx (sic)”

The band will kick off their tour at Metro Radio Arena in Newcastle on November 24 and conclude at Birmingham’s Barclaycard Arena on December 9.

Elsewhere, Queens of the Stone Age played a secret set in the NME/Radio One tent, and Fatboy Slim drew a huge crowd in the dance arena during a spectacular night of music.
