Kate Garraway's husband proposed a second time after 'I'm a Celeb' - but had to be encouraged by their kids

Kate Garraway has revealed her husband’s romantic second proposal as they were reunited on her exit from the I’m a Celebrity jungle.

The Good Morning Britain presenter came fourth in the most recent series of ITV’s reality contest, and her husband Derek Draper missed her so much that he decided to ask her to renew their vows after 15 years of marriage.

But their reunion was so emotional that Draper found himself unable to propose on camera on the bridge out of the jungle as planned, and had to be prompted into asking by their children.

Garraway told the Mail on Sunday’s You magazine that she had only been allowed to keep her wedding ring on for her three weeks in the jungle, but her engagement ring had been left with Draper.

She said: “When Derek came to meet me after I left the jungle, he was planning to propose to me again [with the ring, in front of the TV cameras], but he got overwhelmed and burst into tears.

“The kids leapt out and surprised me and Darcey said, ‘Oh Dad – you didn’t do it!’ So he got down on one knee and proposed… and I said yes, obviously.”

Garraway and Draper first married in 2005 and have two children together, Darcey, 13, and 10-year-old William.

Draper wasn’t the only person to see his wife, 52, in a new light during the show, as viewers and fellow contestants praised her natural beauty.

The TV journalist wowed fans by continuing to look polished throughout I’m a Celebrity, despite the lack of showers and toiletries available, and prompted an awkward confession from her GMB co-star Piers Morgan.

He wrote in his Event magazine column: “After Kate announced she was marrying her husband Derek Draper, with whom I used to lock horns when he was a Labour spin doctor and I was editor of the Daily Mirror, I emailed her to say: ‘If I'd known the bar was that low, I'd have had a crack myself.’”
