Katie Price has exceeded her London Marathon target despite pulling out less than half way through.

The former glamour model took on the challenge to raise money for the British Lung Foundation on behalf of her mother Amy who is living with idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF).

A week before the race she had only raised £280 of her £2,000 target, but by Monday morning she had exceeded her goal to raise £2,160.

Fans previously refused to donate as they feared she would pull out of the race after she recently cancelled a string of tour dates due to “unforeseen circumstances”.

But donations flooded in from fans on Sunday who praised her for attempting to walk the gruelling 26.2 mile route wearing a giant pair of lungs.

One fan who donated, posted: “We saw you running in the heat with the huge lung which looked impossible to carry in the temperatures and wind yesterday. You brought tears to my eyes that you were struggling so much and doing it for your mum. Very proud of you for the miles you did.”

Another wrote: “Wow! I had no idea you where doing this until today! What a worthy cause. And with an injury and those big lungs? I take my hat off to you. Never underestimate the Pricey!”

Price, who vowed to complete the race even if she had to crawl over the line, said she struggled to train for this year’s race due to her damaged knees.

She hit back at critics, who scolded her for failing to finish in a video, saying: “I did train for the run, tried my best in a heavy outfit and if my mummy is proud that's what matters to me.”

Her mother added: “Hello everyone, I would just like to say how proud I am of my daughter Katie for doing the marathon.

“She may not have completed it but she has brought so much awareness, it’s been worth it for the British Lung Foundation.”

Price’s mother Amy was diagnosed with Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis (IPF) last year. The condition causes scarring of the lungs which leaves sufferers struggling to breathe.

Price recently revealed her mother could die from a common cold as a result of the condition which currently has no cure.
