Results of the Local Council Elections 2024 in Kent have been confirmed after counts concluded (May 3) following votes cast on Thursday (May 2). The county’s new Police and Crime Commissioner (PCC), however, is yet to be declared with an announcement expected over the weekend.

Polling stations opened in Maidstone and Tunbridge Wells where boundary changes saw every seat on the two councils contested. Seats on just two Kent councils were contested in the 2024 Local Elections alongside votes for the county’s PCC.

Conservative councillors were able to hold on to their position as the largest party on Maidstone Borough Council despite gains from the Greens. Lib Dems meanwhile took control of Tunbridge Wells District Council. The Kent results have been mapped below, along with links to details of the full breakdown and turnout in each area.

Conservatives narrowly held on to their position as the largest party on Maidstone Borough Council after the 2024 Local Elections - though, the council remains in no overall control. The Conservatives now hold 13 seats, the Greens have 10, and the Liberal Democrats hold 12. The remaining seats are held by eight independents and six Labour councillors.

Every seat on the council was contested when voters went to polling stations (May 2) due to boundary changes that saw the number of councillors cut by six from 55 to 49, with each of the 22 wards electing between one and three members depending on population. Liberal Democrats have taken control of Tunbridge Wells District Council after winning 22 of the 39 seats in the 2024 Local Elections. Conservative councillors also claimed seven seats alongside five Labour councillors and five independents.

Boundary changes in Tunbridge Wells meant every seat on the council was being contested with the number of councillors reduced by nine from 48 to 39 across 14 wards, with one to three seats in each depending on population size. The council was in no overall control prior to the changes. Full details of the Local Election 2024 results can be found here.

When results of Kent’s Police and Crime Commissioner election will be declared

The results of the Police and Crime Commissioner (PCC) election in Kent will be announced on Sunday (May 5). This is according to Medway Council which directs people to a results page on Gravesham Borough Council’s website.

The final results will be published after they have been declared by the Police Area Returning Officer (PARO). The Kent Police Area uses a devolved count process that sees each Local Returning Officer verify and count their own papers at local count centres in each voting area.

The Local Returning Officer then submits the figures to a central hub in Gravesham for collation by the PARO. Gravesham Borough Council confirmed: “The PCC count will take place on of Sunday, May 5 and the collation of the result by the PARO will take place that afternoon.”

Local Returning Officers have been asked to provide verification figures by midday by the Police Area Returning Officer. A declaration of the result is then expected by 4pm.
