A section of a link road in Cribbs Causeway will close for up to 20 days as a new footpath is created. The link road between Lysander Road and Merlin Road, in South Gloucestershire, will close from today (Monday, July 1) and could remain closed until Saturday, July 20.

The link road provides access to the Makro and McDonalds outlets in Patchway and acts as a rat run between Lysander Road and Merlin Road which avoids the roundabout. The section from the Merlin Road junction to the McDonalds entrance will close, but access to the fast food restaurant will remain.

The closure, according to One.Network, is due to a footpath that has “structurally failed”. The footpath will be reconstructed and a new surface will be created to ensure that it is safe for pedestrians. The work will be undertaken by South Gloucestershire Council.

The description of the works is listed on One.Network as: “Footway reconstruction is the rebuilding of the footway to its full depth. This is used on footways that have structurally failed. Footway resurfacing is a process of replacing the existing worn-out surface material with new macadam.”

A diversion is in place for drivers whilst the work takes place. Drivers on the link road will be unable to access Merlin Road so will need to head back onto Lysander Road and onto Merlin Road via the roundabout.

Drivers starting on Merlin Road will need to drive to the A4018 Cribbs Causeway and continue until the next roundabout (located near Mollie’s and Miller & Carter Steakhouse). Drivers can then take Lysander Road and join the link road.
