Key witness comes forward as man fights for life after attack in Gloucester

A key witness has come forward to police following a serious assault in Gloucester. A man remains in a critical condition at Southmead Hospital, Bristol, following the alleged attack on Sunday, April 7.

Gloucestershire Police issued a public appeal on Tuesday, April 9 featuring a CCTV image of a witness they wanted to identify. It has been confirmed today (Thursday, April 18), that the man has now spoken to investigating officers.

The reported serious assault took place on Southgate Street. Police said there was an argument between the suspect and the victim before the altercation became physical.

The force said in an update: "Officers investigating an assault on Southgate Street earlier this month are no longer asking for a key witness to come forward.

"Police issued the appeal last week (Tuesday 9 April), featuring a CCTV image of a witness they wanted to trace, following the incident on Sunday 7 April.

"The man has now made contact and has spoken to investigating officers. Police have thanked the public and media for their help in sharing the appeal.

"A man remains in a critical condition at Southmead Hospital, Bristol, following the assault. Enquiries are continuing."
