Could Sarah Jessica Parker and Kim Cattrall be this generation's answer to Bette Davis and Joan Crawford? Because just when you thought the infamous Sex And The City cast member feud had been quietly laid to rest in 2017, the actresses have given it a brand new lease of life.

While appearing on The Ellen DeGeneres Show this week, Sarah Jessica Parker - who played Carrie Bradshaw in the hit HBO series - joked that host Ellen could take on the role of Samantha if Kim didn't want to reprise it again.

Responding to a headline about SJP's Ellen suggestion, Kim replied on Twitter: "She'd be fabulous."

She even added two thumbs up emojis to share her approval.

The actress then went and tweeted her own Samantha suggestions, including Oprah Winfrey, Girls Trip's Tiffany Haddish, and Sofia Vergara.

"I am partial to @TheEllenShow but @Oprah was always my 1st love. But then there are the goddess's @TiffanyHaddish or @SofiaVergara," she wrote.

"So many fabulous actresses to choose from that will make Samantha their own!"

SJP had been asked by Ellen whether a third sequel would ever come into fruition, to which she replied: "I think there's a period of grief, a mourning process.

"Perhaps we'll be able to consider… say for instance, you playing Samantha."

She continued: "I don't know. Last week, I said 'No'. Reality is a brutal companion. I feel like maybe, I don't know.

"I have to make up an answer, because I have absolutely no idea. You know, who knows. Perhaps, we'll find a way. Right now, I don't know."

Last year, SJP confirmed that a "funny and relatable" script for a third film had been written, but it would no longer be happening.

"It's over," SJP told Extra. "We're not doing it. I'm disappointed. We had this beautiful, funny, heartbreaking, joyful, very relatable script and story."

Kim then went on to appear on Piers Morgan's Life Stories, during which she claimed she and her SATC co-stars were "never friends", and that SJP "could have been nicer" about her turning down the third Sex And The City movie.

She also vehemently denied rumours that her 'diva' demands had derailed a third instalment: "Now at this very moment it's quite extraordinary to get any kind of negative press about something that I've been saying for almost a year of 'no' that I'm demanding or a diva."
