The Kindness Of A Stranger: Student Praised For Holding Hand Of Man With Learning Difficulties

This picture has broken the Internet for all the right reasons as people across the world praised a simple act of kindness to a stranger.

Godfrey Cuotto is seen sitting on a packed bus in Hamilton, Ontario, holding the hand of a man with learning difficulties.

The 21-year-old student was approached by the man, identified as Robert, who then shook his hand - and didn’t let go.

Robert, who has cerebral palsy and is deaf, then kissed Godfrey’s hand and hugged him, resting his head on his shoulders for the remainder of the journey.

A passenger took a picture of the scene and now the image has gone viral as Godfrey’s actions towards Robert were labelled “heroic”.

Godfrey admitted to feeling a little alarmed to begin with but then realised that Robert was disabled.

He told Global News: “I thought, you know what, I’m just going to allow it.

“I’ll let him do his thing. I’ll comfort him.’”

Robert’s niece later thanked Godfrey and told him that her uncle was a sociable person but was often rejected by strangers.

Godfrey rejected his hero status, adding: “To be honest I’m no role model, no hero, but I hope to inspire people from what I did.

“Share the love. Put people’s needs above yours. Don’t be selfish.”
