A South London pub has unveiled plans to upgrade its 'beautiful' beer garden on the banks of the River Thames to give punters the 'best possible experience'. The plans for The Ram, on Kingston High Street, would allow the popular beer garden to be used all year round if they are approved by Kingston Council.

The proposals from Greene King, which manages the pub, would see two metal pergolas, two entrance arches, two Victorian lamp posts, a retractable canopy and extra seats installed in the pub's beer garden to allow punters to use it more often, along with a waiter station so customers could be served outside. The exterior of the pub would also be redecorated to 'refresh' its appearance, while two new plant pots would be added to the windows.

Planning documents said the layout of the garden would be 'more structured with fixed elements' and 'fixed seating' under the proposals, which would allow a 'properly thought-out layout to give guests a comfortable experience'. The pub's appearance would be unchanged by the proposals as the works to the building would only be like-for-like decorations and repairs.

The documents added: "The proposal is to enhance the outdoor areas of the public house to ensure that guests have the best possible experience within the establishment, and to utilise the space all year round."

The Ram has an overall rating of four out of five stars on TripAdvisor from 319 reviews. One reviewer wrote: "The Ram has got a beautiful large outdoor seating area - perfect for enjoying the sunshine over a nice cold pint."

Another commented: "Lovely place, food is amazing, would go back and the staff are really nice and welcoming and the view of the river is just amazing." Kingston Council will make a decision on the plans in due course.
