Landspout Whips Up Dust and Dirt Near Lubbock, Texas

Storm chaser Clint Hendricks spotted a landspout whipping up dirt and dust in a field near Lubbock, Texas, on July 29. The twister lasted about 10 minutes, Hendricks told Storyful.

Meteorologist Chris Suchan explained the difference between a landspout and a tornado in response to a viewer on Facebook .

“Tornadoes require a thunderstorm. Landspouts can form under a cumulus cloud. Landspouts are much weaker too but strong ones can reach EF-0 tornado strength on occasion,” Suchan said. Credit: Clint Hendricks via Storyful
