McDonald's bigwigs have issued a "last chance" warning to fans of their golden fries with a ticking clock on the horizon.

The burger behemoth has been serving up its 'peel-to-play promotion' since May 29, tempting customers with the prospect of bagging some serious swag.

People purchasing medium or large fries are invited to peel back a sticker to reveal if they've won a share of the millions of prizes up for grabs.

With odds of one in three to score an instant win and two in three to nab a code for the McDonald's app, players stand the chance to scoop a variety of prizes ranging from summer festival tickets and cold hard cash to free grub and exclusive branded gear.

And those who enter 10 codes into the app will be treated to 2,500 MyMcDonald's Rewards points, exchangeable for a smorgasbord of menu items or another round of fries to keep the prize train rolling.

An impressive 2.2 million individuals have already struck gold with the campaign, with £700,000 in cash handed out, £15,000 worth of See Tickets vouchers claimed, and nearly two million food prizes devoured.

In addition, over 80 million MyMcDonald's Rewards points have been doled out as part of the bonanza. And there's still a window of opportunity to win as the offer continues for a few more days.

However, time is of the essence for enthusiasts of the iconic fast-food chain, as the peel-to-play event wraps up on July 2, 2024. This all sets the stage for the much-anticipated return of McDonald's Monopoly promotion slated for later this year.

Inspired by the iconic board game, the competition enables customers aged 18 and over to collect stickers from special menu items for a chance to win a variety of prizes. The exact dates for the McDonald's Monopoly scheme in 2024 are yet to be confirmed. In the previous year, it ran from September 6 to October 17.

As per recent years, customers can keep all their stickers digitally on the McDonald's Monopoly website or app, eliminating the need to safeguard the greasy plastic tabs.
