At Least 16 Killed as Light Aircraft Crashes in Tatarstan

At least 16 people were killed, RIA Novosti said, citing officials, when a light aircraft crashed near the city of Menzelinsk in Tatarstan on October 10.

The plane, an L-410 Turbolet, had 22 people on board, the news agency cited the Russian Ministry of Emergencies as saying. Twenty of those were described as parachutists.

Rustam Minnikhanov, president of Tatarstan, was cited as saying the cause of the crash was the failure of one of the plane’s engines.
