At Least 2 Killed as New Mexico Fires Leave 'Only a Handful of Homes' Standing

Two fires growing around the town of Ruidoso, New Mexico, had claimed at least two lives by June 19, and destroyed around 1,400 structures, officials told local media.

The South Fork and Salt fires broke out near Ruidoso on Monday and had burned over 23,000 acres with no containment by Wednesday, fire information said.

Journalist Sasha Lenninger captured this footage while joining Lincoln County officials to survey the damage.

However, the wolf viewed it as an opportunity to potentially lure the bear away and began play bowing and bouncing around,” LaClair wrote on Instagram.“After a while, the grey wolf gave up and laid down nearby, waiting patiently for a piece of meat,” LaClair added. The grizzly eventually left and the wolves were able to get their turn.According to the National Wildlife Federation, a wolf will dance and bow if it is feeling playful. The storm was described by search and rescue as a once-in-150-years event, catching even experienced guides off guard.”Erickson said that the unexpected flash flood brought close to four inches of rain in just 20 minutes.
