Leeds United have been dealt a blow in their efforts to reach the Premier League after Ipswich Town's result in the Championship.

United are battling to secure automatic promotion to the Premier League but have just one more league fixture remaining this term. Leeds were beaten 4-0 by Queens Park Rangers at the weekend to hand the advantage back to Ipswich in the race to finish in the top two.

Tuesday night saw Ipswich travel to face Coventry City in the Championship. The Blues claimed a 2-1 win over Coventry to move three points clear of Leeds heading into the final day of the season.

Kieffer Moore opened the scoring for Ipswich at the Coventry Building Society Arena to hand the visitors the early advantage. The Sky Blues then responded with a goal from Haji Wright, before Ipswich regained the lead with a strike from Cameron Burgess.

The result means that Leeds are now in third place in the Championship table going into the final day of the campaign at the weekend. United host promotion rivals Southampton at Elland Road in a game that will determine whether or not the club has a chance of securing automatic promotion to the Premier League.

As a result of Ipswich's win against Coventry, Daniel Farke and Co. now know what they must do to be promoted to the Premier League. United will have to beat Southampton and hope that Ipswich lose to Huddersfield Town on Saturday to leapfrog their rivals into second place, where a point for the Blues would end Leeds' hopes of finishing in the top two.

Leicester City have already secured automatic promotion to the top flight, as well as the Championship title. Going into the final day of the season there is still one more automatic spot to be handed out before the play-offs get underway.

Southampton have already been confirmed their spot in the play-offs which get underway next month. Norwich City are almost certain to be involved, while West Brom have a three-point advantage over Hull City heading into the final day of the season.
