Leeds United (4-2-3-1)

1 Illan Meslier

Not a huge amount he could do about the opener. Made an excellent later save to stop Adam Armstrong making it 2-0 in the first half. No horrible errors to speak about. 7

22 Archie Gray

Very bright and unsurprisingly was not fazed by this atmosphere or setting at 18. Always offered an option down the right flank and linked up well in the first half with Wilfried Gnonto. Could not quite find that quality needed in the final third. No defensive issues on his side of the field. 7

14 Joe Rodon

Rock solid throughout the game in defence. Badly exposed by others at points. Massive slide to clear the ball after Meslier's aforementioned save. Carried some of the response early in the second period with his breaks from defence. Some passes and touches went astray as the game entered its latter stages. 7

4 Ethan Ampadu (c)

Improved after the break, but Southampton's most dangerous first-half moments came when the captain had steamed out of defence for challenges and not won the ball. Some of those rushes were needed with team-mates absent to a present danger, but some were avoidable. 5

3 Junior Firpo

Mercifully, none of the defensive errors we can see from Firpo on such occasions. Solid throughout the game, though not perfect, and offered a useful outlet in attack down the left. 6

44 Ilia Gruev

Big questions of the cover he provided the defence in the first half when Ampadu had to step out and face on-running dangers. One or two thundering tackles caught the eye, but was generally bested by Flynn Downes and Will Smallbone. 5

8 Glen Kamara

Some decent nicks of possession and work rate, but another who didn't dominate enough if that midfield battle. 5

29 Wilfried Gnonto

Some decent moments earlier in the first half, but final touch of quality evaded him. Jack Stephens coped better with him the more the game went on. 4

24 Georginio Rutter

Some decent flashes and moments with the ball at his feet when the pitch opened up, but, ultimately, could not find that moment of quality needed to unlock Southampton. 5

10 Crysencio Summerville

Not the afternoon he would have dreamt of. Never really had the game under his spell. Kyle Walker-Peters kept him under wraps throughout. 4

7 Joel Piroe

Totally anonymous. At odds entirely with what Armstrong was doing down the other end of the pitch. Never won his duels or gave the defenders something to think about. 3

Substitutes

28 Karl Darlow

6 Liam Cooper

12 Jaidon Anthony (on for Summerville 73min)

Fresh legs, but nothing to hurt Southampton. 6

17 Jamie Shackleton

20 Daniel James (on for Gnonto 66min)

Bright and full of speed when Leeds needed it. Smacked the crossbar with what proved to be the closest they got in the closing stages. Saw another effort saved by McCarthy too. Great impact. 7

25 Sam Byram

30 Joe Gelhardt

33 Connor Roberts (on for Kamara 73min)

Didn't come onto the radar. 5

49 Mateo Joseph (on for Firpo 83min)

Too late to make much difference. N/A
