Leeds University students under fire for 'chav-themed' party at women's hockey club
A students’ union is investigating how an “ill-judged chav party” was allowed to take place at a university hockey club last week.
Photos from the “chav night” social, held at the women’s hockey club at the University of Leeds last Wednesday, show women drinking Lambrini while dressed in tracksuits and covered in fake tattoos.
The event invite, posted on a now-closed Facebook group, told guests to dress as “lower-class” people, according to The Tab.
The invite also posted a dictionary definition of “chav” as “a young, lower-class person typified by brash and loutish behaviour”.
Attendees were told to “set aside all they believed to be good, honest and noble” and “replace champagne flutes with cans of K cider”, according to the website.
The invitation reportedly added: “We educated fair maidens, studying in one of the countries [sic] grandest universities, would find such behaviour entirely alien.”
The University of Leeds described the event as “ill-judged”.

After photos from the event popped up on social media, complaints were received by the students’ union, who have now vowed to investigate.
A spokesperson said: ”We expect all our clubs and societies to run inclusive and accessible activities, including socials.
“Where we become aware that this is not the case, as in this instance, we will investigate this with the organisers and take disciplinary action against individuals or clubs as appropriate.
“We are still investigating and determining what action should be taken.”
