A Lidl store has reopened today (Thursday) in Lewisham almost double the size of its former layout with brand new customer toilets.

Lidl has confirmed that its Bellingham store has re-opened this morning (May 9), after a multi-million pound investment into its existing Southend Lane site.

After serving the local community for almost 29 years, extensive works were undertaken to provide locals with an enhanced shopping experience.

The existing store footprint has been increased by around 50 per cent, enabling Lidl to offer a “better range of its high quality, best-value products”.

The modernised supermarket will still house the ‘Middle of Lidl’ and Lidl’s bakery, which was recently crowned the UKs most popular supermarket bakery, beating both Tesco and Sainsbury’s.

Alongside this, there are new customer toilets with baby changing facilities and outside the store continues to be served by ample parking for both cars and bicycles, including two electric vehicle charging spaces.

Store opening times will be between 7am and 10pm from Monday to Saturday, and from 10.30am for browsing on Sunday, with tills open from 11am to 4pm.

The store refresh has created a handful of new jobs, with colleagues set to receive one of the “highest rates of pay in the sector” following the discounter’s latest wage increase, according to a Lidl spokesperson.

According to a spokesperson for Lidl, those previously working in the Bellingham store have also returned after taking temporary roles at nearby stores.

During opening weekend, customers will be able to find exclusive deals on selected products, including a Silvercrest 9-in-1 Airfryer for £59.99, Silvercrest Microwave for £29.99 and a Singer Sewing Machine for £49.99.

Max Clapton, Regional Head of Property at Lidl GB, commented: “As our customer base continues to grow in the capital, it’s more important than ever that our stores are meeting the needs of those shopping with us.

“We’re thankful to locals for their understanding whilst we progressed with this exciting development and can’t wait to welcome both our existing and new customers through the doors in the coming weeks.”
