Liam Gallagher has paid tribute to the victims of the Manchester Arena terror attack with an emotional rendition of Oasis hit Live Forever.

The musician marked the one-year anniversary of the horrific blast, which killed 22 people on May 22 last year, as he opened for the Rolling Stones at the Olympic Stadium on Tuesday.

Before performing the track, he told the audience: “This is for everyone in Manchester. Sing along if you know the words.”

Gallagher made a surprise appearance at the One Love Manchester charity concert last year, organised by Ariana Grande to raise funds for the survivors and the families of victims.

He was joined on stage by Chris Martin for a performance of Live Forever, saying: “I wanna dedicate this next song to the beautiful people who were killed and injured in the Manchester terror attack.”

Gallagher branded the attack “outrageous” in an interview last year, admitting it prompted him to try and build bridges with estranged brother Noel.

He said: “It’s outrageous. Just so sad. What can you do? It’s just f****** out of order. There are kids and people dying all over the world. And for what?

“I’d gone to bed early – about 10pm – then got up in the morning to a text from my other brother saying what had gone on and I put the TV on. It’s just unbelievable.”

Speaking about reaching out to brother Noel on his 50th birthday, he said: “Well me mam did tell me to do it. Nah she didn’t. I swear to God she didn’t. Nah, I just woke up, you know with all the stuff that went on in Manchester, I woke up and I just thought: ‘You know what? You know, I’m going there. Happy Birthday.’”

Grande, who had just finished performing at the arena when the bomb was detonated, sent an emotional message of support to fans on Tuesday.

She wrote: “Thinking of you all today and every day. I love you with all of me and am sending you all of the light and warmth I have to offer on this challenging day."
