Liam Gallagher hints music writing was 'real thing' that caused Oasis split and rift with Noel

Liam Gallagher has appeared to hint at the "real thing" that caused Oasis to split up and triggered his longstanding feud with brother Noel.

The Gallagher siblings have exchanged insults with each other over social media and in print ever since Noel left the band in 2009.

And while the colourful nature of the barbs traded by the pair has tended to provide the focus for coverage of their dispute, Liam appeared to suggest for that music writing was at the root of the tensions between the pair.

Liam said that until Oasis split up, he had hoped that “over the years maybe we’d get to the point where we could write a tune together".

"But it just never got to that point," he told The Telegraph

“I guess maybe that’s the real thing. I wanted Gallagher-Gallagher writing music. Obviously he’s on another level. But I guess that’s what I really wanted from that band. Gallagher-Gallagher – I think we could have been…”

He added: “I’ve always wanted to learn how to write. I’ve always wanted to be part of a band. But Oasis weren’t that kind of a band.”

Liam said his dream was for a partnership like “Lennon and McCartney – ‘I’m struggling with this bit, can you help…?’ But it was all, ‘I’m writing the songs.’”

Noel, who wrote Oasis hits such as "Wonderwall" and "Don't Look Back In Anger", has always been credited as the band's chief songwriter despite Liam having penned singles such as "Songbird".

Asked whether relations between him and Noel could ever improve, Liam said: “F*** him. F*** it being fixed.”

He added that he was “happy” he had a solo career because “I don’t have to see that miserable little c*** with his little Simon Cowell Cuban heels that give him a high-rise”.

Liam is about to release his second solo album, Why me? Why Not. on 20 September.

Noel, meanwhile, will release the EP This Is The Place with his band High Flying Birds on 27 September.
