Light aircraft carrying two people crashes near to Prestwick Airport

A light aircraft with two people on board has crashed near Prestwick Airport this afternoon.

Police Scotland said the crash happened at about 4.10pm, with emergency services, including an air ambulance, racing to the scene. The A719 is closed near the B739 with drivers being asked to avoid the area.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "Around 4.10pm on Tues 23rd April 24, we received a report that a small aircraft with two people on board had crashed in Monkton."
