The BBC's six-part adaptation of Les Misérables is halfway through now that the third episode aired last Sunday (January 13).

And – spoilers ahead! – after making a heartbreaking exit from the drama series in the latest instalment, actress Lily Collins has now revealed the full extent of her transformation as her character Fantine.

Scroll through her Instagram picture run-through below:

As seen in the images above, Lily had to undertake a radical alteration from a beautiful young girl to a mentally and physically brutalised woman.

Based on the original novel by Victor Hugo, Fantine was forced by life circumstances to become a prostitute in order to provide for her daughter Cosette.

Paying tribute to her character, the actress wrote on her Instagram: "In honor of Fantines death in last night’s episode, here is her progression from beginning to end.

"This has been such a transformative experience, literally and figuratively. Thank you again so much to the incredible hair and makeup team headed by the impeccable Jackie Fowler and specifically my insanely talented key artist Rowena Dean."

She added: "I couldn’t have done it without your vision and design. Make sure to swipe all the way through for the full #LesMisérables effect..."

The non-musical adaptation of Les Mis has already won people's hearts and some even referred to the new series as the 'best yet'.

Les Misérables continues on BBC One at 9pm next Sunday (January 20).
