Lily James and Amanda Seyfried stunned as they walked the carpet at the premiere of Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again alongside Cher in London.

Ten years after the first film, the long-awaited sequel held its UK premiere on Monday evening at London’s Hammersmith Apollo with a host of stars turning out for the occasion.

James wore a strapless, floorlength gown with an unusual split, showing off her ivory satin shoes, as she posed for pictures on the blue carpet looking flawless.

The actress – who plays lead character Donna in flashbacks through the film – showed off the quirky print on her dress as she stopped for photos and to chat to fans.

Seyfried dazzled in a black trouser suit complete with two roses and black high heels while Cher looked radiant in all black.

The three laughed as they posed for pictures in front of the film’s signage before heading in.

Also on the carpet were male leads Pierce Brosnan, Stellen Skarsgård and Dominic Cooper, with Cooper feeling playful as he threw lemons around and hid amongst flowers during his photocalls.

Meryl Streep - who plays Donna, in the present - wore royal blue as she arrived at the event, assuring fans of her role in the film after her absence from the trailer led to fear she would not return for the film.

Founding ABBA members Benny Andersson and Björn Ulvaeus were also at the event as well as Andy Garcia, Alexa Davies and Hugh Skinner.

The hugely-anticipated sequel sees Seyfried's character Sophie preparing to become a mother, back in the place it all began in Greece.

The film also acts as a prequel, with James as a young Donna exploring how she prepared for life as a single mum and dealing with not knowing the paternity of her child.

Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again is in cinemas Friday 20 July.
