More than a million people in Gaza City have been ordered to evacuate to the south of Gaza ahead of an anticipated Israeli ground offensive in the area.

The UN has warned that the task of relocating so many civilians from the north of Gaza to south of the Wadi Gaza is "impossible' without "devastating humanitarian consequences".

Prime minister Rishi Sunak has said the UK was working to provide support after the defence secretary said “it seems very likely” Brits are among the hostages.

Speaking to broadcasters at a summit in Gotland, Sweden, the Prime Minister said: “It is a complex situation on the ground and tragically British people have lost their lives, and several are also missing.

“We are working very closely with the Israeli authorities and in contact with families to provide all the possible support that we can."
