Major engineering works are also affecting rail services to and from King's Cross are entering their fourth and final day on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, minor delays continue to hit the Central Line amid an ongoing shortage of trains.

The Hammersmith & City, Piccadilly, Victoria and Bakerloo Lines are also facing disruption and the Tram is partially closed.

Traffic queuing for miles on M25 and M26 after crash near Sevenoaks

A crash on the M25 clockwise near Sevenoaks is causing major issues this morning.

Two lanes are shut on the London Orbital between junctions 5 and 6, and traffic cameras show traffic queuing for around four miles on both the M25 clockwise and the M26, where it joins the motorway.

Lanes open on M25 but traffic building

All lanes have now reopened on the M25 near Sevenoaks following the earlier crash, according to traffic monitoring system Inrix.

But there are still extremely long queues of traffic on both the M25 and M26.

On the M25, cameras show traffic backing up for nearly eight miles, to near where the orbital joins the M20. Inrix says queues on the M26 are around five miles.

Crash on M25 near Uxbridge also causing delays

A separate crash on the M25 clockwise near Uxbridge is also causing delays this morning.

The crash happened near Denham Interchange (junction 16), where the M25 joins the M40.

There is heavy traffic queuing anticlockwise from J17 A412 Denham Way (Maple Cross) to J16 M40.

There are also long queues clockwise from J15 M4 to J16 M40.

Another crash causing delays on M25 near Brentwood

A crash on the M25 near Brentwood is also causing delays this morning.

This is on top of two other M25 crashes which are causing delays near Sevenoaks and Uxbridge, respectively.

The Brentwood crash has left traffic queuing anticlockwise from J29 A127 (Romford/Basildon) to J28 A12 (Brentwood/Brook Street Roundabout).

M20 shut in both directions due to police incident

The M20 in Kent is closed in both directions between J2 (Wrotham Brands Hatch Circuit) and J3 (M26 Interchange) due to a police incident.

National Highways warns on X the motorway “is likely to be closed for some time”.

The closure is leaving traffic queuing in both directions on the approach.

It is compounding issues for those travelling between London and Kent this morning, who are also facing heavy traffic on the M25 and M26 due to an earlier crash.

Traffic subsides on M25 near Sevenoaks

The M20 may be shut both ways, but there is some good news for motorists in Kent.

Heavy traffic that was queuing along the M25 and M26 following a crash on the London Orbital near Sevenoaks appears to have cleared and traffic now seems to be flowing normally.

M20 reopens but traffic continues to queue

The M20 has been reopened by police, but heavy traffic continues to queue in both directions.

Kent Police says it was called to the scene around 6.30am, to “concerns for the welfare of a person near the M20 between junctions 2 and 3”.

Both carriageways were closed while they responded to the incident.

“The person is now being passed into the care of health professionals,” said police.

Trains through Shadwell delayed due to ill passenger

National Rail has warned trains through Shadwell are currently delayed by up to 15 minutes, after a passenger fell ill on a train.

Severe delays hit Overground

Good service returns to Overground

A good service has resumed on the London Overground, TfL has confirmed, following earlier severe delays due to a customer incident at Shadwell.

Work to install step-free access at Northolt Tube station set to begin at last next year

Work is to resume at Northolt Tube station on the western end of the Central line to make it step-free, TfL has confirmed.

Work had previously been due to start at the station, but had to be paused when the Covid pandemic hit.

Construction is now scheduled to start at Northolt station early next year.

TfL said it also plans to start design work on making North Acton on the Central Line and West Hampstead on the Jubilee Line step-free, while also addressing capacity constraints.

The news comes after TfL confirmed in summer it had earmarked 10 Underground stations for potential step-free access.

As well as Northolt, North Acton and West Hampstead, the stations earmarked were: Alperton, Arnos Grove, Burnt Oak, Eastcote, Finchley Road, Rayners Lane, and White City.

Disruption between Charlton and Woolwich Arsenal at lunchtime

A fault with the signalling system between Charlton and Woolwich Arsenal means train services may be cancelled, delayed by up to 20 minutes or revised.

National Rail said disruption is expected until 1.30pm.

Overground suspended due to obstruction on overhead wires

There is no London Overground service between Gospel Oak and Upper Holloway due to an obstruction on the overhead electric wires in the Upper Holloway area, TfL says.

National Rail says the disruption is expected until around 3pm.

Severe delays on Elizabeth Line

TfL says the delays are due to an earlier points failure in the Slough area.

Minor delays to the Metropolitan Line

After the 3:20pm departure from Amersham, the next southbound train will be at 4:22pm.

Major engineering work is taking place between Peterborough and London Kings Cross today.

An amended train service will run between:

  • Scotland and Peterborough (2 trains per hour)

  • Leeds and Peterborough (1 train per hour)

Other services will be amended to start/ terminate at Grantham.

Replacement buses will run between Peterborough and Bedford, connecting with East Midlands Railway/Thameslink services to/from London St Pancras International.

Routes affected:

LNER between Inverness / Aberdeen / Glasgow Central / Edinburgh / Newcastle / York / Skipton / Bradford Forster Square / Harrogate / Leeds / Lincoln and London Kings Cross
