Stoke City finally have a senior number one of their own after triggering a relegation release clause to sign Viktor Johansson from Rotherham United. It was the first deal in what is Steven Schumacher's first summer as head coach and Jon Walters' first transfer window as sporting director.

A good signing? Giving their view from the terraces are Stoke supporters JON OWEN, from Seabridge; LIAM HALL, from Dresden; and RICHARD JAMES, from Blythe Bridge. Agree or disagree? Have your say in the comments section. Want to join the fans’ panel? Get in touch via peter.smith01@reachplc.com

'He was out of this world against Stoke'

Jon Owen: We've needed our own permanent goalkeeper for what feels like forever, relying on loans to fill such a crucial part of the team always seemed a strange idea.

I was pleased Viktor Johansson signed, partly because it seems like we've beaten a number of clubs to his signature, but mainly because from what I've seen he seems to be a very good goalkeeper. When Rotherham beat us 1-0 at our place a few years ago he was out of this world, the best goalkeeping performance I'd seen at Stoke from an opposition keeper in a good while. Fingers crossed he's as good as we all hope.

'He has all the attributes to be a very good keeper for us'

Liam Hall: Feels good to finally have a bona fide no.1 that we own. If reports are to be believed we got in early ahead of a long list of Championship clubs and to secure one of the top keepers in the division for £1m or a bit less looks fantastic business.

Looking forward to seeing what he can do in a Stoke shirt but he's the right age and has all the attributes needed to be a very good keeper at this level for us.

'A key deal for several reasons'

Richard James: The signing of Johansson was a key one for me for several reasons. Clearly we needed a keeper we could hang our hats on and organise a back four (and who was actually contracted to us!)

The former Rotherham stopper was also highly rated and viewed as one of the better keepers in the division. I also liked our approach to getting it done early, triggering the release clause and not messing around. Hopefully a sign of things to come.
