Part of the Dartford Crossing has been closed this afternoon amid an ongoing police incident.

All traffic was initially held on the Queen Elizabeth II Bridge just before 1pm as police attended an incident.

An Essex Police spokesman said: "We are currently responding to concerns for someone on the Dartford Crossing.

"Traffic is being held while this incident is ongoing.

"We will work to resolve this situation as quickly and safely as possibly.

"Thank you for your patience and understanding, we will update you as soon as we're able to."

Traffic has now been temporarily released on the bridge, with two lanes of four remaining closed at this time while the incident is ongoing.

There is three miles of congestion on approach.

A National Highways spokesman said: "Traffic has been stopped on the A282 QEII Bridge southbound at Dartford Crossing due to a police incident.

"Long delays are building on approach.

"Traffic was also temporarily held on the northbound. Updates to follow shortly. Thanks for your patience if you're held up."

Traffic is also slow coming into Essex through the Dartford tunnels due to the incident.
