Loose Women's Carol McGiffin, 58, reveals secret marriage to Mark Cassidy, 36

Loose Women presenter Carol McGiffin has revealed that she married her fiancée Mark Cassidy last year in Thailand.

McGiffin, 58, dropped the marriage bombshell in her Best magazine column. She wrote about the secret nuptials:

“No one knew we were going to do it, but we’ve basically spent the last year having separate celebrations with different friends and family, telling them all in person. Now they all know, we’re ready for it to come out.”

The couple married in a ‘low key’ wedding ceremony in Bangkok, Thailand with no family members or friends present.

McGiffin explained that they had intended to marry the previous year, but cancelled after the tragic death of her sister.

“We’d booked a registry office in London for 19 January 2017, but sadly my sister died five days earlier so, of course, we cancelled it.

“We re-booked it but then changed our minds because it still didn’t feel right – it was too soon.

“Part of the reason it took us so long to get married was because every time we discussed having a traditional wedding day with guests, it ran out of control and became too much,” she wrote.

The couple, who have been together for a decade, celebrated their one year anniversary in Phuket, Thailand over the weekend.

McGiffin has previously hit back at the age gap between her and Cassidy. With over twenty years between them, she wrote in Best in 2017 that their relationship is proof that large age gaps can work in relationships:

“Some people will never get their heads around the idea that an older woman can make it work with a younger man.

“It can work – I’m living proof of that, as Mark and I, are coming up to nine years together, and we’re stronger than ever. Anyone who doesn’t like the idea should shut their mouth, because it’s not your life, it’s ours. We’re the only ones who need to worry about our ages.”

This is McGiffin’s second marriage. The broadcaster was married to Chris Evans between 1991-1998.
