Loose Women presenter Saira Khan has criticised Jennifer Lopez for her decision to perform with her 11-year-old daughter Emme during the Super Bowl half-time show.

Emme came out on stage to join her mother and Colombian pop star Shakira during the performance to help the pair sing Born In The USA during the live broadcast, but the former Apprentice contestant was not impressed.

“I just thought great, but you’re only on there because of your mum,” Khan suggested to the other panellists on the ITV daytime show.

“It does matter in the world where I come from, where nepotism sometimes does stop other people from going forward.”

Speaking on Loose Women on Monday, she added: “It doesn’t help with social integration so I found it a bit difficult. I just thought you didn’t have to do that.”

Co-panelist Coleen Nolan disagreed however, and suggested that it was important to help empower your own children.

“The little girl had a great voice, she had no nerves, she obviously loved it. If you can help your kids out in any way, I don’t understand why you won’t,” Nolan said.

The iconic half-time show was taken over by Shakira and Jennifer, two Latina performers who made a political statement during the 15 minutes.

It was the first Super Bowl half-time performance by female artists since 2017.

Emme’s appearance came during a moment that saw the young girl joined by many other children as they were hatched from gilded cages. The mother and daughter duo also rocked out to Bruce Springsteen’s ‘Born In The USA’ while JLo wore a Puerto-Rican flag inspired cape. Emme Maribel Muniz is Lopez’s daughter with former husband Marc Anthony. She has a twin brother called Maximillian Maribel Muniz.

The performance also honoured the late Kobe Bryant, a week after his tragic passing in a helicopter crash a giant cross on the field illuminated in the LA Lakers’ colours purple and yellow.

Emme’s father paid tribute to his daughter on Instagram sharing a photo of her performance with the caption: “Daddy is so proud of you. You are my ❤ and I am forever yours.”
