Former Wales rugby international Louis Rees-Zammit's ex-girlfriend Saffron Barker has hinted she thought the rugby player would propose before they split up. The sports star and the YouTube creator announced they had decided to go their separate ways in March 2024 after several months of dating.

Now on her podcast Sex, Lies, and DM Slides, with fellow YouTuber Anastasia Kingsnorth, Barker has said "everyone" thought her ex-boyfriend – assumed to be Louis – would ask her to marry him "very quickly". The pair announced their split in March 2024 shortly after the former rugby player's shock announcement that he would be moving to the US to pursue a career in the NFL..

The pair went public after last year's Rugby World Cup, attending a film premiere together before enjoying a night out in Cardiff and sharing a very public kiss. Barker even got the British & Irish Lions tourist's initials tattooed on her arm while she spoke of her pride when he quit rugby to pursue his new sporting career.

However just weeks later the influencer confirmed that the pair had gone their separate ways on Instagram. The announcement came after a series of cryptic social media posts from Barker who shared two videos on her TikTok account hinting that she had broken up with Rees-Zammit. In one of the video captions she said: "Boy, bye [has] never felt so good," while she liked comments including: "Hope you're OK darling. Sorry about Louis".

Fans of the YouTube star noticed that she had deleted a photo of her new tattoo which was of Louis' initials on the side of her arm. As well as this she also liked a follower's comment which insinuated that the Welsh rugby player had cheated on her but neither party has ever commented on these rumours.

Now on a segment of her podcast where the hosts discussed when was the right time to get engaged to a partner Barker has seemingly hinted that she expected her and Rees-Zammit would marry. She said: "I've never really said this on the podcast but I was adamant that my ex who I wasn't with for very long was going to propose to me. Very quickly – and we were together for about six months."

Her co-host then agreed, saying: "I thought I was going to be at a wedding next year," to which Barker responded: "No seriously, everyone thought that. So when we all got the news we got it was big shock factor I can assure you."

While the two friends did not explicitly say that their conversation was referring to the Welshman the timeline of Barker and Rees-Zammit's relationship appears to line up and Barker has not referenced any ex-partners publicly since the March split. Former Wales wing Rees-Zammit signed a three-year deal with the reigning Super Bowl champions Kansas City Chiefs last month after emerging as a standout talent on the NFL's International Player Pathway programme and attracting interest from more than 12 franchises. He linked back up with the Chiefs earlier this month as he began offseason workouts and trained with star quarterback Patrick Mahomes in Texas.

Rees-Zammit now faces a busy summer of training camps as he competes with fellow rookies to land a place on the Chiefs' 53-man active roster for the new season. Having only quit rugby in January the 23-year-old has impressed with how quickly he has taken to his new sport with legendary coach Andy Reid explaining that while it is "not an easy transition" the Welshman has the right understanding and mindset to succeed.
