Now Louis is gearing up for the release of his second solo single, ‘Back To You’ – a collaboration with Bebe Rexha -, and he has opened up about the impact his mum’s death had on him in an incredibly honest new interview.

Insisting that he doesn’t want to sell a “sob story” and that he doesn’t want people to “feel sorry” for him, Louis discussed the close relationship that he had with Johannah with The Observer.

Speaking to the publication, Louis recalled where he was when his mother told him that she had terminal cancer, sharing: “[I was] at Jamie Vardy’s wedding of all places. Talk about your places, for something super-traumatic.

The pair were always incredibly close.

“My mum told me, uh yeah, that she was definitely terminal.”

Addressing his moving X Factor performance, Louis continued: “I remember saying to her: ‘Mum, how the f*ck do you expect me to do this now?’ And she didn’t swear much, my mum. She’d always tell me off for swearing.

“And this time she was like: ‘You’ve got to f*cking do it, it’s as simple as that.’ It was football manager, team talk stuff.

“I’m not going to claim this is all for me mum. But it was definitely… It was…”

As well as reliving his heartache at her passing, Louis also shed some light on just how close their mother-son relationship was, admitting to the publication that he even told his mum when he lost his virginity.

The 25-year-old star shared: “I remember the day I lost my virginity. I hadn’t even told my mates and I was like: ‘Mum? I know this is really weird but I’ve got to tell you.’

“I remember thinking this is a bizarre conversation to be having with your mother but it’s a testament to how comfortable she made me.”

Louis was heavily supported by his One Direction bandmates following Johannah’s death, with Harry Styles, Niall Horan and Liam Payne all dropping their plans so that they could fly to London and support Louis backstage during his X Factor performance.
