Love Island's Chloe Burrows announces new 'showmance' project

Love Island star Chloe Burrows has announced a new documentary that will look at 'showmances'.

The star, who was a runner-up on the summer 2021 series of the ITV2 dating show, fronts Love in the Limelight: Untold, which is available to stream now on Channel 4.

“I've wanted to do a documentary for a while, just to explore a different avenue and I think it was really important that there was something, number one, that I had experience in so I could relate to, but then also something that was relevant and had been untold," she told The Sun.

In it, Chloe and Too Hot to Handle star Harry Johnson embark on a fake relationship to see how it will affect their careers, including whether they could get pictures in the press and land brand deals, while also exploring the cost of being a famous couple.

The film also includes real-life celebrity couples such as Millie Court and Liam Reardon, and Cara De La Hoyde and Nathan Massey.

Explaining why she chose Harry, Chloe said that he wasn’t “too close to home” and had a “healthy” established following online.

Chloe found that their fake relationship did end up in the press – with the pair's so-called romance reported by a number of publications – while Harry landed 18,000 more followers on social media.

“I was so shocked by that, I had never thought of that – that being with someone on Love Island would give you followers but it is definitely something to consider in the future," she admitted. "Do you want me or do you want 18,000 followers?”

The star further revealed that her own grandmother was taken in by the press reports, explaining: “She's 75 but she, like, she reads newspapers and checks online and she was like, who's this man you're with?”

Addressing the potential public reaction, Chloe added: “I'm really nervous for the reaction as it’s obviously a completely new angle for me, but I found making the doc so interesting so I really hope that people watching engage with it in the same way.”

Love in the Limelight: Untold is available to stream now on Channel 4. Love Island airs on ITV2 and streams on ITVX.
