Machete gang strike car with woman and child inside

A gang struck a car with a machete while a woman and a child were inside it.

The incident happened on Lodge Lane, Toxteth, at around 6.25pm on June 7. Police were watching as it happened, and chased after the gang.

Officers later arrested a 14-year old boy from Liverpool. When police caught up with him, he reportedly threw the machete on the floor. He was also found to be carrying a bag of suspected Class B drugs, police said.

A 14-year-old boy was charged on June 8 with possession of Class B drugs, possession of a knife/blade and criminal damage. He has been bailed and will appear at Merseyside Youth Bail Court on July 2.

Detective Inspector Jemma Shaw of Merseyside Police said: "Merseyside Police is committed to preventing serious violence to reduce the devastating impact it can have on individuals, families, and the wider community.

“If you know anything about the storage, movement or use of such weapons, please come forward directly or anonymously via Crimestoppers.

“What you tell us may lead to other weapons being removed from circulation, and those communities becoming safer and secure.”
