Major Newcastle revamp starts to take shape with £60m transfer interest and striker movement

Newcastle United's summer transfer window has so far consisted of strengthening Eddie Howe's defensive options, while chasing goalkeeping targets to compete with No 1 Nick Pope. Now we are starting to see movement at the top end of the pitch as deals for attacking reinforcements begin to take shape.

Saturday proved a busy day with speculation regarding Dominic Calvert-Lewin, Yankuba Minteh, Max Kilman and Elliot Anderson all moving in various directions. With the dust settling, you can start to see where Newcastle want to move this summer in regards to a revamp of their attacking options.

Calvert-Lewin negotiations are ongoing as the Magpies attempt to agree personal terms with the Everton striker, who is entering the final year of his Goodison Park deal. The 27-year-old will be used as backup to Alexander Isak should he arrive on Tyneside but reports emerging from Merseyside this weekend suggest the Toffees could demand up to £37m for his services.

That would represent a significant chunk of Howe's summer budget just months after the Newcastle boss admitted he knew it would cost a lot to replace a striker of Callum Wilson's quality should he leave this summer.

Calvert-Lewin's arrival would almost certainly spell the end of Wilson's time on Tyneside given both men will have zero interest in being a third-choice striker this season. The former Bournemouth striker has been consistently linked with a move away in recent months after interest emerged for his signature back in January.

Wilson is also entering the last year of his current deal and one final payday could be in order with Saudi Arabia sides interested and Chronicle Live understanding West Ham United are also keen.

Moving away from the central striking position, there is also expected to be major movement out wide for Newcastle as Howe seeks additional firepower on the right-side of his attack. The north east outfit have already shown an exciting amount of ambition this summer with regards to the type of player they are seeking to sign in that particular role.

Newcastle contacted Crystal Palace to enquire about a move for Michael Olise this summer. However, Bayern Munich are now closing in on his signature after beating Howe's side, Chelsea and both Manchester clubs.

There has also been interest in Euro 2024 sensation Nico Williams, who can play on either flank, but Newcastle are set for more disappointment given the Spaniard is settled in La Liga and not looking to leave Athletic Bilbao. Barcelona are also the clear favourites should he decide to jump ship.

Both moves represent the type of moves Newcastle are looking for. You get the feeling a marquee signing of around £60m is more than possible on the right-side of Howe's forward line this summer.

Pedro Neto and Bryan Mbeumo are other targets for the position in question, while Federico Chiesa is another name who continues to be linked with a surprise move to St James' Park.

An upgrade of this magnitude requires a sale and while it looked like Miguel Almiron would be sacrificed, Yankuba Minteh is now edging closer to a move away from the club. The winger's agent has told Chronicle Live that terms have been agreed with an unnamed club as Newcastle now seek a bumper transfer fee for the 19-year-old.

Interest in Minteh comes from a number of top European sides, including Roma and Borussia Dortmund. Everton are also keen.

As for Almiron, Saudi Arabian interest emerged in January but the player chose to stay put. That interest remains but the transfer window for Saudi clubs does not open until mid-July.

It promises to be an exciting few weeks of incomings and outgoings as Newcastle attempt to bring two attackers in, while offloading the same amount, if not more, to balance the books.
