MAGISTRATES have issued a warning to a 27-year-old who appeared in court after he was caught driving dangerously down Winwick Road.

Constantin Florea, of Forster Street, appeared at Warrington Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday representing himself.

The court heard that on February 9 at 11.30pm, police officers saw a vehicle driving down Winwick Road with no lights on.

Officers then proceeded to try and stop the vehicle, but it made off ‘with speed’, running through traffic lights in the process.

Prosecution for the case, Mrs McGuire, told the court that police officers witnessed a near collision with other road users and that Florea was seen taking corners at such speed that he mounted the kerb on several occasions.

Officers briefly lost sight of Florea and his vehicle, and so proceeded to his home address.

There, they found the vehicle outside the property with the engine still running and the key still in the ignition, before arresting the 27-year-old.

Florea pleaded guilty to failing to stop, driving a motor vehicle otherwise than in accordance with a licence, driving without third party insurance and dangerous driving.

Unrepresented in court, when given the opportunity Florea did not offer any comments to defend himself.

He was disqualified from driving for 12 months, as well as sentenced to a 12-month community order with 200 hours of unpaid work.

“I have to warn you that driving whilst disqualified is a very serious offence and can result in custody,” said the magistrates.

“Do not get behind the wheel of any vehicle.”

Florea will also have to take an extensive retest once his ban has ended before he can drive again.
