Man in 60s badly hurt after being hit by motorbike in Birstall

A man in his 60s was seriously hurt after being hit by a motorbike in Loughborough Road, Birstall, yesterday (Saturday) evening. The collision happened at about 7.45pm near the junction with Sibson Road and Leicestershire Police are appealing for witnesses.

They said the man on the motorbike, who was in his 50s, was not hurt in the collision. The police said in a statement: "A pedestrian has been seriously injured following a collision on the A6 yesterday evening.

"Police are appealing for witnesses, dash cam and mobile phone footage after the incident which happened at 7.45pm in Loughborough Road, close to the junction with Sibson Road. The collision involved a blue Honda motorbike – being ridden by a man in his 50s – and a pedestrian in his 60s.

"The pedestrian was taken to hospital with serious head and abdominal injuries and remains in a critical but stable condition. The rider of the motorbike was not injured."

Collision experts attended the scene and the road remained shut for several hours on Saturday night while they carried out a full investigation into what happened. Now they would like to speak to any witnesses who were in the area and have any further information.

Serious Collision Investigation Unit detective constable Maddie Hayes said: “There were vehicles travelling in both directions on the A6 at the time of the collision and there were also people coming off buses at the bus stop, opposite the Birstall MOT Centre, on county bound carriageway of the A6.

“I would like anyone who may have witnessed the collision and has not yet spoken to police to come forward. We are also wanting access to any dash cam footage, or any videos people may have captured on their phones. Officers are also in the area collecting any CCTV footage.”
