90-minute delays on M6 after crash involving police car and Volkswagen Polo

There are heavy delays on the M6 northbound after a crash.

The M6 northbound closed this afternoon (June 27), at junction 33 in Lancaster. It has since reopened but there is still heavy traffic.

The crash, which was reported at around 1.30pm, involved a police vehicle and a Volkswagen Polo.

Police said only minor injuries were reported.

The crash has since cleared and all lanes reopened but there are still “severe delays” of up to 90 minutes, with around six miles of congestion reported.

A National Highways spokesperson said: “The M6 northbound [was] closed within junction 33 in Lancaster due to a collision.

“Traffic [was] being diverted via the exit and entry slip roads.

“If you're heading M6 northbound in Lancashire, please allow extra journey.

“Collision [has] cleared and all lanes are open on the M6 northbound within junction 33 in Lancaster

“There are severe delays of up to 90 minutes currently in place, please allow time for the delays to ease. Approximately six miles of congestion.”

A police spokesperson said: "At around 1:30pm today, one of our police vehicles was involved in a collision with a Volkswagen Polo on the M6 near to junction 33.

"Thankfully, any injuries suffered were minor."
