Man arrested over hammer attack robbery where dog was threatened with knife

A man has been arrested in connection with an alleged robbery in Hartlepool where two people were attacked with a hammer and the family dog was threatened with a knife.

Cleveland Police say they have arrested a 46-year-old male in connection with the incident which happened at the town's Pinero Grove on Tuesday, April 23.

In their latest statement the force said: "The reported incident involved two people being assaulted with a hammer and a family pet threatened with a knife.

"The man was arrested today, Friday 10th May, and the man remains in police custody on suspicion of robbery. Enquiries are continuing."

Following the incident, police said the attack took place at around 9pm. They said two males broke into the flat through a window before threatening the occupants and the dog. Cleveland Police said that two people were hit with a hammer, but not seriously injured, and the dog was thankfully unharmed.

Cash and medication were reported to have been stolen. The drugs included morphine, Pregabalin, Propranolol and other general painkillers. Police urged anyone who came across the potentially dangerous medication to hand it in to police or a pharmacy immediately.
