In a light-hearted post on Facebook, a spokesperson for Southampton police said: “Today (Thursday, June 27) officers were out and about conducting bike patrols around the city and the city parks, when to our surprise, we spot a male making hand to hand exchanges and before we even had the chance to say hello, off comes his sliders and breaks into a run.

“Of course, he was not quite fast enough and after throwing a package of suspected Class A drugs into the rail line, he was swiftly detained by our officers and currently remains in custody whilst enquiries are ongoing, having been arrested for being concerned in the supply of a Class A drugs.

“We would like to thank colleagues at Network Rail and BTP for making the recovery of the package safe to assist our enquiries.”
