A man has been accussed of kidnapping and sexually assaulting a nine-year-old girl who was reportedly taken from her family outside Harrods in London.

The child was missing for a number of hours before police identified Robert Prussak on CCTV images and later arrested him on Monday in Knightbridge.

The 56-year-old has been now been charged with kidnap, two counts of sexual assault and administering a substance with intention of stupefying or overpowering to enable sexual activity.

The suspect, of no fixed address, was remanded in custody and appeared at Westminster Magistrates’ Court today. He was further remanded to appear at Isleworth Crown Court on 22 May.

The child, who cannot be identified as the alleged victim of a sexual offence, became separated from her family at around 2.45pm on Monday on Brompton Road, which links Knightsbridge to the South Kensington area of the capital.

Harrods had told the Mirror: "We supported the Metropolitan police with an incident outside Harrods that has now thankfully been resolved. We cannot comment any further on the details as it is a police matter, but are thankful the Met Police’s swift actions led to this safe resolution."
