A man has been charged with a number of offences following a crash that left a a 50-year-old woman with serious injuries.

The collision happened between a black Audi A4 and a white Vauxhall Vivaro on Masefield Road in Hartlepool, at 4.35pm on Sunday, June 23.

Officers arrested a 30-year-old man on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving, failing to stop, driving whilst disqualified and driving with no insurance.

He was charged with a number of those offences and is due to appear at Teesside Magistrates’ Court this morning(Friday, June 28).

A Volkswagen Passat initially thought to be connected to the incident was stopped nearby and the driver was arrested.

The 63-year-old driver and two other men aged 32 and 30, who were also arrested in connection with the incident, were released with no further action.

Following a further appeal, officers also confirmed that the two young children who were believed to be in the black Audi A4 at the time of the collision are safe and well.

Witnesses and anyone with dashcam or doorbell footage of the collision is asked to call 101, quoting reference SE24117990.
