Man charged with murdering beautician whose daughter called for ambulance

A man has appeared in court charged with murdering a beautician after her teenage daughter called for an ambulance.

Andrew Wadsworth, 36, is alleged to have stabbed 32-year-old Melissa Belshaw to death at her home in Upholland Road, Billinge, on Wednesday.

Police believe the suspect and the victim knew each other.

Ms Belshaw's 13-year-old daughter rang the emergency services, but paramedics were unable to save her and she was pronounced dead at the scene.

Her daughter is now being supported by specially trained officers.

Two men had tried to stop the attack, Greater Manchester Police have said.

One of them was stabbed and remains in a stable condition in hospital.

Mr Wadsworth, of Cranfield Road, Wigan, is also accused of attempted murder, two counts of assaulting an emergency worker, one count of making threats to kill, and one count of threatening another person with a large knife.

He appeared in the dock for a brief hearing at Manchester Magistrates' Court on Friday.

No pleas were entered and he was remanded into custody until Tuesday, when he is due before Manchester Crown Court.
