Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong is reportedly keen on signing for Manchester City this summer.

The Dutch midfielder has long been linked with a move away from Camp Nou, despite only signing for the Spanish giants in 2019, with Manchester United the club most heavily linked with moving for the Ajax academy graduate in recent times.

It remains to be seen what happens regarding the future of the 27-year-old in the coming weeks, which will all depend on which clubs come forward with proposals to secure his services.

City have been named as one side De Jong "wants to join", dealing United a potential blow should they choose to reignite their long-standing interest in the player.

Indeed, a Spanish report via Football365 has stated Barcelona are willing to cash in on the Netherlands international and wish to "get him off their back before he begins to devalue himself".

The article adds Barcelona "know City will not pay" his €400million release clause, though are not prepared to do a deal for below €100m. Speaking out on his future in February, De Jong said: “My future? The truth is that I’m a bit p*ssed off with what you people [journalists] write in general! A lot of things are coming out that are not true, it’s irritating me,” De Jong told reporters in February. “Everything that is said in the media about my salary and my future are lies. It’s a lot of smoke.

“I know that a lot of things are made up in the media, you write things that are not true. You are doing it in general with a lot of players, coaches even. You can’t do that, you are making things up. Stop this.

“I consider the club to be my teammates, the staff, I’m enjoying it a lot… The media sometimes criticise my level, it doesn’t matter because everyone can have their own opinion. But I don’t accept lies. Don’t lie.”

Sergio Gomez claim

Bayern Munich are believed to have entered the race to sign City left-back Sergio Gomez.

Real Sociedad have emerged as frontrunners to recruit the Spaniard in recent weeks and are said to be in "advanced negotiations" with the Sky Blues over a transfer.

A fresh report from Cope has made clear Sociedad are facing competition from Bayern Munich as City legend Vincent Kompany attempts to strengthen the defensive unit of his new employers.

The article adds Bayern "feel threatened" by Alphonso Davies' potential move to Real Madrid and are therefore on the lookout for replacements in this part of the pitch.
