Man dies after tree falls on car in Surrey

A man died and four other people were injured after a tree fell on top of a car in Surrey.

Police said the silver Lexus crashed on Sunday evening on the A308 Windsor Road at the junction with the Runnymede roundabout in Egham.

Firefighters cut free one man who was trapped in the car but he was pronounced dead at the scene.

The other four occupants – three females and a male - were taken to hospital for treatment to minor injuries.

“We were called to a tree on a car. We believe it was as a result of a road traffic collision,” said a spokeswoman for Surrey Fire and Rescue Service.

“There was a report of a person trapped who unfortunately has died. There are no reports of any other vehicles involved. They extracted the man who sadly died. They did use cutting equipment for that. They also assisted with first aid with other passengers.”

The A308 Windsor Road was closed while the emergency services dealt with the incident.

Surrey Fire and Rescue Service said it was “likely to remain closed into the morning through rush hour” and advised motorists to seek alternative routes.

Anyone who saw the incident or who may have dashcam footage should contact police on 101.
