A man suffered serious head injuries after being attacked by a gang of youths.

Merseyside Police received a report that around 9.45pm on Sunday, April 7, a 37-year-old man was walking along Park Lane, near Aintree station, when he was approached by a group of five to six youths who assaulted him.

He suffered a serious head injury which left him in hospital. A passer-by helped the victim home and emergency services were contacted. The man has since been discharged from hospital.

An investigation is ongoing and officers have conducted house to house enquiries and CCTV opportunities in the area. Police said they are now appealing for anyone with information about this assault to get in touch.

Detective Inspector Sara Lang said: “This was a completely unprovoked and nasty assault that left a man in hospital with serious head injuries. To attack someone in the street in such a violent manner is appalling and we are determined to find the group of young males involved.

“We are keen to speak to anyone who was in the area at the time and witnessed the incident to please get in touch to help our investigation. Also, if you live on Park Lane or nearby, please check your CCTV or doorbell footage to see if you captured anything that could assist. If you were driving through the area at around the time of the incident, please review your dashcam footage and let us know if you captured anything.”
