Man suffers wounds to head and back in town centre stabbing

Police said a man suffered wounds to his head and back in a stabbing in Blackburn town centre.

The incident happened on Sunday, just before 5pm, near a car park opposite the Farmfoods store and next to a charity shop.

The man in his 30s was treated by ambulance teams but his injuries are not life-threatening, police said. A man and a woman have been arrested.

An alleyway at the far end of the car park, just off King Street, had been cordoned off by police.

A police spokesperson said: “We were called at 4.48pm yesterday (30th June) by the North West Ambulance Service to King Street, Blackburn, to a report of an assault.

“Our officers attended and found that a man in his 30s had been assaulted and suffered stab injuries to his head and back. Thankfully these injuries aren’t life-threatening.

“He was taken to hospital and is undergoing treatment."

The police statement added: “A 33-year-old man and a 35-year-old woman have been arrested on suspicion of assault and are currently in custody.

“Anyone who witnessed the assault or has information, please contact 101, log 0939 of 30th June.”
